The Memorial Specialist

FOR COUNCILS, CEMETERIES & COMMUNITY ORGANISATIONS

Council & War Memorial Services

Specialist war memorial cleaning, restoration and cemetery maintenance across Rochdale, Greater Manchester and Lancashire.

We help local authorities, cemetery operators, churches and organisations care for public memorials, commemorative stonework and cemetery niche walls, with methods selected to suit each project.

War memorial cleaning, restoration & maintenance

War memorials are important places of remembrance. Our work includes cleaning biological growth, renovating weathered stonework and restoring lettering where appropriate to the memorial’s condition and agreed specification.

We undertake individual refurbishment projects and can discuss scheduled maintenance for organisations responsible for several sites. Planning work ahead of remembrance services and civic events allows time for assessment, permissions and suitable working conditions.

Cemetery and public memorial care

  • Cemetery and niche wall maintenance: cleaning, treatment, repairs and ongoing care.
  • Public memorial refurbishment: work to stone plaques, memorials and commemorative features.
  • Lettering and inscriptions: assessment and renovation of existing lettering, with additional inscriptions discussed where required.
  • Planned maintenance: an agreed scope and schedule suited to the sites in your care.

Council contract: Rochdale Cemetery niche wall

Our work at Rochdale Cemetery included cleaning and treatment of the niche wall as a council contract. These before-and-after photographs show the project and the change in its appearance.

A careful approach to memorial cleaning

Every project is assessed individually, taking account of the material, age, condition, lettering and previous repairs.

Where appropriate, we use controlled, low-pressure water cleaning. Our approach aims to minimise surface erosion and protect weathered stone and delicate lettering. Cleaning methods and any treatment are selected for the particular memorial rather than applying the same process to every surface.

We discuss the proposed scope with the responsible authority or organisation before work begins. Any required permissions should be established before cleaning or alterations are undertaken.

Working with local authorities and organisations

We welcome enquiries from councils, cemetery managers, churches, parish councils and community organisations across Rochdale, Heywood, Middleton, Bury, Oldham, Rossendale and surrounding Greater Manchester and Lancashire areas.

For an initial discussion, please send the site location, photographs, a brief description of the work and any target completion date. If you manage several memorials, include a list of the sites so we can discuss the scope together.
